Members of ”The Western Acronym Table” - made up of representatives from RSS, CPMs, IAB, DAI, OP3, XML, MP3, MP4, WAV, LUFS, and Louis C.K. - have decided to fight a decision to shut down the group after funding from Elon Musk’s “Banter Fund” was pulled suddenly this week. Even though the group aren’t an internationally recognised entity, many members feel that it needs to exist (to prevent “just anyone” working in the podcasting industry). “We find the decision completely LOL, ROFLcopter, tbh”, a spokesperson told TNPNN. “Without acronyms, my job sounds way too simple to justify my outrageous salary. We’ll fight and appeal, and btw, FTW!” The Western Acronym Table is not been abbreviated for obvious reasons.

Spotify have been praised for hiring a new “EQUAL” Podcast Ambassador, to help elevate women in podcasting. “It’s fantastic”, an insider tells TNPNN. “It’s great to have an ambassador within the company championing equal rights for women, and to be honest, she’s not bad to look at either.” We asked if we could get an interview with the newly appointed ambassador, however we were offered a chat with her new boss, Simon Baker, who could apparently go into much more detail about the role and explain it in much clearer terms. TNPNN declined the offer.

In an effort to keep up with Spotify’s ‘Ad Skipping’ tool, Apple have released a ‘Podcast Skipping’ tool, which is penciled to be released next year. “We understand that most people only listen to podcasts as a kind of showing off thing. Well, soon they won’t even have to listen to shows when they subscribe. It’s a win-win”, an Apple representative told TNPNN. “This tool is the perfect solution to anyone who wants to come across as cultured but just can’t be arsed”. Asked if this would effect podcast revenues, the representative put his finger to his mouth and walked away backwards.

And finally, Tom Webster - podcasting’s spiritual guru and author of the critically acclaimed* book, ‘The Audience Is Listening’, is to hold a rural walking tour and retreat for podcasters on his industrial oyster farm in Nigeria. “Tom is so plugged into podcasting, that even the animals listen’, another podcast executive tells TNPNN. ‘The retreat is essential for anyone interested in getting ahead in podcasting. A typical day starts with a lovely pre-roll (bacon, low-fat sauce), followed by a mid-roll (Tom whispers advice taken from his next book, ‘Practice ‘til it KHz’), and finally a post-roll (more advice that no one listens to).
